It is a layer, not the whole answer
Endpoint protection is necessary and it is not sufficient, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. It works alongside a properly configured firewall, patching, sensible access control and — because no preventative control is perfect — backups you have actually tested restoring from. The businesses that come through an incident well are the ones with several of those in place, not the one with the best antivirus.
