IaaS or fully managed — your choice of where we stop
With infrastructure as a service you get the virtual machines, storage and networking, and your own team keeps control of the operating systems and applications on top. It suits businesses that already have IT people and want the hardware problem to go away.
Fully managed goes further: we look after the operating system as well — patching, monitoring, backups and the day-to-day administration — so the only thing you deal with is the application you actually care about. Most customers land somewhere on that spectrum rather than at one end, and it can change as you grow.
Why the SAN matters more than the CPU count
Your virtual machines don't live on a single server's local disks. Storage sits on a shared enterprise SAN, which is what makes the useful things possible: a VM can move between physical hosts without shutting down, so hardware maintenance doesn't have to become your downtime, and the loss of any one host doesn't take your workload with it. Local-disk hosting is cheaper to build and it is your problem the first time a host fails.
Room to run, not a contended shelf
Unlike other providers we don't throttle your bandwidth, and you can say goodbye to noisy neighbours because we keep all our servers under capacity.
That last point is worth spelling out, because "noisy neighbours" sounds like jargon for something harmless. On an oversubscribed platform, another customer's backup job or runaway query competes with your workload for the same disks and cores, and your application slows down for reasons you cannot see, diagnose or fix. Running hosts below capacity costs us density and is the entire reason it doesn't happen here.
Sized for the workload, and resized when it changes
We'll size CPU, memory and storage against what your systems actually do rather than round everything up. If a database outgrows its allocation or a seasonal load needs more headroom for a couple of months, that's a change request, not a migration project — one of the practical advantages of virtualised infrastructure over a server you bought outright.
Included as standard
Offsite backups and Windows licensing are included as standard where required. The licensing point catches people out: Windows Server licences you already own generally cannot be moved onto a hosting provider's hardware, so being able to consume them as part of the service avoids buying them twice.
Getting your systems across
Most moves are a migration rather than a fresh build, so the questions that matter are how much downtime you can tolerate and what has to move together. We'll work through what depends on what — the application nobody remembers is talking to the file server is the one that breaks — plan the cutover for a window that suits you, and keep the old environment available until you're satisfied the new one is doing its job.
